Inflatable safety guide: what to ask before you book
Anchoring, weight limits, and weather rules — a quick checklist that protects your guests (and your deposit).
Inflatables are the centerpiece of most kids' parties — and the source of most preventable injuries when they're set up wrong. A few sharp questions during booking will tell you everything you need to know about a vendor's safety standards.
Ask how the unit will be anchored. On grass, expect 18" stakes at every D-ring. On concrete or asphalt, expect water barrels (75+ gallons each) at every corner. If the answer is vague, keep shopping.
Ask about weight and rider limits. Each unit has a manufacturer-rated capacity, usually posted on the unit itself. A reputable vendor will volunteer this number.
Ask about wind policy. Industry standard is to deflate any inflatable when sustained winds exceed 15–20 mph. Make sure your contract reflects this — and that you'll get a refund or reschedule.
Ask about supervision. The renter is almost always responsible for an adult monitor. Know the rules: shoes off, no flips, no climbing the walls, separate small kids from big kids.
Finally, walk the setup before guests arrive. Tug-test the stakes, confirm the blower is dedicated and unobstructed, and locate the emergency deflation zipper.
Five minutes of due diligence prevents the call no parent wants to make.
